Public Internet Protocol Addresses, also called Public IP addresses, are addresses assigned to computers so that they can find each other on the Internet. They are the Internet’s equivalent of a physical mailing address. A not-for-profit organization called ICANN, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, coordinates all public IP address assignments. IP addresses allow computers to send packets of information directly to each other without the need to pass through a firewall or DMZ.
Public ip addresses can be assigned by us and routed to your router onsite.
The need for a public might include, but is not limited to:
- If you want to host your own email or web server
- If you use a game console like X-box
- If you want to remote control (RDP) your computer from the internet
- If you want to have access to anything on the inside of your network (e.g. camera / dvr)
The cost for 1 public ip per month is R150.+ VAT @ 14%. The bandwidth used by this public ip is charged at R80 / 1 GB.
